Dr. Melissa Havemann grew up in Jarrell and has returned back to her hometown to provide wellness and preventative veterinary care, urgent/ emergency medicine, surgery, dentistry, and nutritional and behavioral counseling for dogs and cats at this time. Same-day appointments are often available.

We perform many types of surgeries ranging from elective to emergency procedures. We offer many different kinds of soft tissue and orthopedic surgical procedures which include mass removals, laceration repairs, cesarian sections, cruciate ligament repair, and many more.

This is the first time I’ve ever been somewhere where I don’t feel pressured to do bloodwork or unnecessary things on my animals. Every vet tech is so personable and you can tell such animal lovers. One of the most heart-wrenching experiences we’ve had was saying goodbye to one of our beloved dogs. He struggled with stranger danger, but the team handled the situation with such gentleness, empathy, and respect, making an impossibly hard moment feel peaceful. It meant the world to us.
We also have a small breed dog with a neurological condition who began having seizures last year. The team has walked with us through every step, whether it was emergency care guidance, helping us find trusted specialists when we had to travel, or simply checking in. Their care doesn’t stop at the clinic doors.
Each of our dogs has such different needs, but they all love visiting Compassion because the team is so warm, patient, and friendly, even when vaccines are involved 😊

The staff is amazing. They are all so nice and we know them all by name. Dr Haveman is the best. She always takes her time to answer the 30,000 questions my wife has, and she genuinely cares.
There are a few little things they do that I think makes a big difference as well. 1) their next day phone call checkups are such a nice touch! 2) I love the little things like them having our dogs name on the board as you walk in. (Even though my dog can’t read English very well. He’s mostly fluent in dog). And 3) they have cold sodas in the fridge! I know it seems minor, but when so many place skimp on customer service, I think it’s great!
We don’t just feel like a number here. As a healthcare provider myself, sometimes places become an assembly line and you kind of lose the fact that everyone is a person (or in this case, a dog).
I recommend everyone bring their pet here! They’re so awesome!
